AUDITION with ATLANTA MASTER CHORALE

If you are passionate about choral music and looking for a challenging, satisfying choral experience, we would love to add you to our audition contact list! Fill out the form at the bottom of this page and we will be in touch with more information on auditions when they are scheduled.
Our most recent round of auditions were just held in January 2025, so we don't have future audition dates on the calendar yet. We will hold auditions again when there are vacancies that need to be filled in a voice part. If you fill out the form at the bottom of the page, that will add you to our list for future audition communications.
Rehearsals and Concerts
Auditions, rehearsals and concerts are at the Schwartz Center for Performing Arts on the campus of Emory University. Rehearsals begin in mid-August and are held every Tuesday evening (7:30 – 9:30 pm). We perform four concert programs each season with multiple performance dates for each concert.
You can see our current season's programming and concert dates on our Concerts Page.
Details of the Audition Process
Prospective choir members need not be professional musicians, but singers should possess an excellent choral “skill-set,” including:
-
good music-reading skills
-
nuanced phrasing
-
precise intonation
Atlanta Master Chorale sings with a warm, tension-free tone, often without vibrato. Though our members come from different walks of life and have a wide variety of vocations, many are highly experienced singers and may be featured as soloists within the group.
Prospective members are encouraged to listen to excerpts of Atlanta Master Chorale in performance, which may be found at our You Tube channel: https://www.youtube.com/atlantamasterchorale.
At your audition, you will be asked to vocalize and to sight-read a portion of a choral work. The sight-reading will be a cappella. Additionally, we ask that you prepare EACH of the following in advance to sing at your audition. An accompanist will be provided.
One classical solo piece of your choosing (oratorio, aria, or art song preferred) that demonstrates your best vocal qualities. A few possibilities are provided as follows:
Soprano: “Quia respexit” from Bach Magnificat
Alto: “O Rest in the Lord” from Mendelssohn Elijah
Tenor: “If with all your Hearts” from Mendelssohn Elijah
Bass: “Bright is the ring of words” by Vaughan Williams
Sing your part from this section of the following two choral works:
Brahms Ein Deutsches Requiem AND Rheinberger Abendlied
